Past Events 2009 The Barnes Wallis lecture The Conference Centre at the English Golf Union was full to capacity for the Woodhall Spa Cottage Museum's Annual Memorial Lecture. The subject this year was "The Life and Work of Sir Barnes Wallis" and was given by Chris Henderson, a member of the Barnes Wallis Memorial Trust. The audience was treated to a fascinating account of this truly remarkable man. Though best remembered for his invention of "The Bouncing Bomb", we learned that this was but one small part of a long and distinguished career, which continued until his death at the age of 83. The talk was illustrated by two short films, providing a unique insight into the design and construction of the R100 Airship in the 1930's and his experiments into Swing Wing aircraft design in the 1950's. The films were especially interesting as the commentary was by Sir Barnes Wallis himself. 2007
