The Renaissance Heritage Awards are a new series of awards of annual for all museums, including independent and local authority museums, heritage societies and linked local groups. The Inspiration award is made annually to the best project that has employed an innovative approach to attain its aims and, as such, is an inspiration to others.
Such a project can include work with schools or community groups, an improvement in collections stewardship, a new approach to documentation or research, an effective marketing or public relations campaign, audience development programme or staff or volunteer training.

The Renaissance programme is funded by the Department for Culture Media and Sport with the aim of transforming England's regional museums. It enables museums to maximise capital developments and provides other financial support so that they can attract more visitors, work more effectively with schools, community groups and lifelong learning, make the most of their collections and invest in their staff.
